Sine consensu Imperatoris electus, quod Roma a Longobardis tum obsessa: hâc liberatâ, per Gregorium Diaconum Tiberium placavit, consensu eius impertratô: Nil enim tum a Clero, in eligendo Pontifice agi solebat, nisi eius electionem Imperator approbâsset, Sigebert. in Chron. Episcoporum Istriae schismate tunc Ecclesia scissa, et Iohannes Ieiunator, Episcopo Constantinopol. Episcopi Universalis titulum sumpsit.
